What is a Steam Solenoid Valve?

A Steam Solenoid Valve is an electromechanical valve that allows or prevents the movement of steam in one direction within a pipeline. This valve is controlled by a magnetic coil called a solenoid and is commonly used in systems such as steam boilers. The steam solenoid valve ensures the correct direction of steam flow, increasing the system’s efficiency and safety.

Solenoid valves are manufactured in two types: normally closed (valve closed when not energized, opens when coil is energized) and normally open (valve open when not energized, closes when coil is energized).


Where Are Steam Solenoid Valves Used?

Steam solenoid valves are designed for installations containing high temperatures (80°C – 180°C). They are commonly used in industrial plants and facilities to control steam. They can be used to regulate steam distribution in steam systems, ensure steam is sent to the correct areas, and control the flow of steam. Additionally, they facilitate the operation of steam-powered devices and ensure the safe use of steam.


Normally Open Operation System

A normally open solenoid valve initially allows the fluid to pass through. To close the valve, electric current energizes the coil, moving the core downward to block the orifice opening. As pressure inside increases, it pushes the diaphragm downward to close the orifice where the fluid passes. Within a short time, the pressure distributes evenly over the diaphragm, and the pressure exceeding the fluid’s pressure prevents the diaphragm from lifting, thus keeping the valve closed. Recommendations

  • Install the solenoid valve with the coil positioned upwards.

  • Use filters such as strainers before the solenoid valve in the system.

  • For high temperatures, more durable diaphragm and gasket materials are available. Please specify if you require high-temperature resistant diaphragm and gasket when ordering.


Things to Consider When Selecting a Steam Solenoid Valve:

  • The coil must be selected according to the operating voltage (AC-DC). It should provide appropriate protection and insulation depending on the application. (The valve opens when electricity is applied and closes when power is cut.)

  • Minimum and maximum pressure values in the line or system where the valve will be used are very important for valve selection.

  • The nature and temperature of the fluid directly affect valve selection.

  • The fluid flow direction and the arrow marked on the valve body must be aligned during installation.

  • Since the solenoid valve does not function as a check valve, fluid may flow backward under reverse pressure. In such cases, installing a check valve after the solenoid valve is advisable.

  • The line where the valve is installed must be free from dirt and debris.
