Unox Stainless Steel Lug Type Butterfly Valve with EPDM Seal
What is a Lug Type Butterfly Valve?
Lug type butterfly valves operate by rotating a disc made of nickel, stainless steel, or other materials (such as AISI 304, AISI 316, AL-BR) around a central shaft. The disc is fixed on the shaft and rotates to open or close the valve. The disc presses against a rubber or plastic seal to control, slow down, or completely stop the flow of liquids or gases. These valves feature a quarter-turn disc and a sealing gasket, used to stop, regulate, or start fluid flow.
How Does a Lug Type Butterfly Valve Work?
Lug type butterfly valves have protruding lugs that cover the entire valve body, designed to align with the bolt holes on the flange it will be connected to. The valve is installed by securing it between two flanges with bolts, studs, and nuts. This design prevents the pipe system from being disconnected on one side of the valve alone.
Besides manual operation via a handle, lug type butterfly valves can also be equipped with pneumatic or electric actuators for automated control.
The valve is installed between pipe flanges, with flange bolts surrounding the valve body. It is easy to install but cannot be used as an isolation valve. It supports manual operation as well as actuator-driven control.
