What is a Full Bore General Purpose Solenoid Valve?

A full bore general purpose solenoid valve is an electromagnetic valve. It opens and closes by moving an armature around the solenoid coil. The solenoid valve can be operated by a pilot valve or another system to open or close a channel. Full bore general purpose solenoid valves are generally designed to be leak-proof for water, air, or gas and are used in many industrial applications. These valves are particularly suitable for low-flow applications, and their full bore design allows unrestricted flow when fully open.

Applications of Full Bore General Purpose Solenoid Valves

Full bore general purpose solenoid valves are used in a wide range of industrial applications, such as:

• Ventilation systems: to manage airflow and open/close air ducts.

• Water supply systems: to control water flow and open/close water channels.

• Automatic irrigation systems: to open irrigation channels, automating the watering process.

• Industrial production lines: to control the passage of products, allowing or preventing flow.

Solenoid valves are manufactured in two types:

• Normally Closed (NC): The valve is closed when the coil is de-energized and opens when energized.

• Normally Open (NO): The valve is open when the coil is de-energized and closes when energized.

Normally Open Operation

A normally open solenoid valve initially allows fluid to pass. When electric current is applied to the coil, the plunger moves downward, closing the orifice. As internal pressure rises, it pushes the diaphragm down, fully closing the fluid passage. The pressure distributes evenly across the diaphragm, preventing it from lifting due to fluid pressure, and the valve reaches a closed position. This process happens very quickly, ensuring optimal efficiency.

• Consider the minimum and maximum pressures of the system when selecting a valve.

• The fluid type and temperature directly affect valve selection.

• Ensure the flow direction matches the arrow on the valve body during installation.

• Solenoid valves do not function as check valves; a separate check valve should be installed downstream to prevent reverse flow.

• The line where the valve is installed must be free of debris.
