What is a Compressor Solenoid Valve?

A compressor solenoid valve is a component that controls the airflow of a compressor. This valve is used to manage the compressor’s air compression process and regulate the air pressure. It is generally controlled by an electromagnetic force and can open or close the airflow. This way, the compressor system can adjust the air pressure regularly, increasing or decreasing the pressure as needed.

Where is a Compressor Solenoid Valve Used?

Compressor solenoid valves are commonly used in air compression systems. For example, they can be found in home air conditioners used to control air quality, air regulating systems, and automobile air conditioners. This valve is also used in air compressors and some pneumatic systems.

Solenoid valves are manufactured in two types: normally closed (the valve is closed until the coil is energized to open) and normally open (the valve is open until the coil is energized to close).

Normally Open Operating System

A normally open solenoid valve initially allows the fluid to pass through. To close the valve, electrical current energizes the coil, which moves the core downward and closes the orifice opening. As a result, the pressure inside rises gradually, pushing the diaphragm down and closing the orifice through which the fluid passes. The pressure quickly distributes evenly over the diaphragm, and the pressure higher than the fluid prevents the diaphragm from lifting, thus keeping the valve in the closed position. Important Considerations When Selecting a Solenoid Valve

  • The coil should be selected according to the operating voltage (AC or DC). Protection and insulation should be ensured depending on the application. (The valve opens when electricity and air are supplied and closes when electricity is cut off.)

  • Minimum and maximum pressure values in your system or line are very important for valve selection.

  • The nature and temperature of the fluid directly affect valve selection.

  • The direction of the fluid must match the arrow on the valve body during installation.

  • Since the solenoid valve does not function as a check valve, fluid can flow back under reverse pressure. In such cases, it is appropriate to install a check valve after the solenoid valve.

  • The pipeline where the valve is installed should be free from debris.
