What is a Brass Body Solenoid Valve?

A brass body solenoid valve is an electromagnetically operated valve. It opens or closes by creating a magnetic field, controlling the flow of a fluid from one area to another. The valve consists of a body, sleeve, coil, diaphragm, and plunger.

Where Are Brass Body Solenoid Valves Used?

Brass body solenoid valves are commonly used in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, which are often part of machinery and equipment to control movement.

Solenoid valves are manufactured in two types:

• Normally Closed (NC): Closed when the coil is de-energized; opens when energized.

• Normally Open (NO): Open when the coil is de-energized; closes when energized.

Normally Closed Operation

A normally closed solenoid valve prevents fluid flow initially. When electricity energizes the coil, it pulls the plunger upward, opening the orifice. This allows high-pressure fluid to bypass through the outlet rapidly, creating a pressure difference inside. The diaphragm overcomes the spring force, lifting up and permitting fluid flow. Selection Considerations

• Coil must match the operating voltage (AC or DC).

• Ensure proper protection and insulation at the installation site.

• Consider minimum and maximum pressure of the system when selecting the valve.

• Fluid type and temperature affect valve choice directly.

• Align fluid flow direction with the arrow on the valve body.

• Solenoid valves do not function as check valves; install a check valve downstream if reverse flow may occur.

• Keep the pipeline free of debris.
